Matthew Pohlson is an American businessman. He is the Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Omaze, an entertainment company that holds raffles with charity partners.[1]
Education
Pohlson attended Stanford University, where he earned a B.A. in Economics and Political Science. During his time at Stanford, he befriended Omaze co-founder Ryan Cummins. Pohlson also holds an M.B.A. from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.[2]
Life and Career
Pohlson briefly pursued an acting career after graduating from Stanford, landing roles on Everwood and Scrubs. In 2007, he was one of the first directors of the environmental awareness benefit concert Live Earth. Pohlson is credited as a producer on the documentary Girl Rising.[3]
Pohlson co-founded Omaze in 2012 with Ryan Cummins, establishing the company as a digital fundraising platform that originally partnered with celebrities to raise money for charitable causes.[4]
In 2018, Pohlson experienced a near-fatal medical emergency during a surgical procedure, an event he later described as having a significant influence on his outlook and approach to leadership and the business direction of Omaze.[5]
In 2020, Omaze introduced the “Million Pound House Draw” in the United Kingdom, offering participants the chance to win luxury homes while supporting charitable causes. In 2023, Omaze fully transitioned to the house draw model and moved its headquarters to London.[6]
