David Robert Schifino (born August 26, 1973) known professionally as DJ Venom, is an American hard dance DJ, teacher and producer based in Providence, Rhode Island.
Early life and education
David Robert Schifino was born on August 26, 1973, in East Providence, Rhode Island and was raised in Kent Farm Village.[1] He grew up in Providence Rhode Island, where he experienced with all different styles of music growing up.
Career
In the late 80s-early 90s he started off spinning hip hop, reggae and house music.[2][3] To affords his first set of turntables, he earned money by selling imitation Run-DMC style gold chains.[4]
In 1989, Venom worked as a hip-hop DJ for a local radio station, a role he held for three years.[5] He met and started working with the hip-hop music director.
By 1991, after Venom attended his first techno and house event, Venom shifted his musical focus from hip-hop to electronic music, becoming deeply involved in the rave and techno scene in New England.[6]
In 2000, Venom signed with the Chicago hard-house label Underground Construction. His hard-house style aligned closely with the label, leading a series of successful commercial mix CDs to be released, including the Straight Bangin' series, the House Blend series and the Raise the Volume series.[7] [8]
In 2011, Venom signed with Hard Dance Nation, producing a mostly mix of their popular podcast series.[8]
