Adrian James Wilson is a British orthopaedic surgeon and academic. He is a founding surgeon at Orthopaedic Innovation in London and holds a visiting professorship at the University of Winchester. His work has focused on techniques in cruciate ligament reconstruction and osteotomy, and he is involved in co-hosting international surgical training courses.[1][2]

Early life and education

Adrian Wilson graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Manchester before earning his MB BS at St Bartholomew’s Medical School, University of London. He completed his orthopaedic specialist training within the NHS and then undertook a Fellowship in Sports Medicine at the Brisbane Orthopaedic Centre under Professor Peter Myers (2003–2004).[3]

Career

He was appointed Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics at North Hampshire Hospital NHS Trust in 2004, where he helped establish a tertiary referral centre for complex knee surgery and launched a global osteotomy training programme. From 2006 to 2016, he served as Director of the Basingstoke Knee Fellowship in Sports Medicine and Joint Replacement.

In 2017, he founded the London Osteotomy Centre to provide advanced osteotomy training for international surgeons. He is also a co-founder of Orthopaedic Innovation, a specialist London hospital group focused on minimally invasive joint surgery, and serves as lead surgeon for knee and hip services at the Weymouth Street Hospital.

Research and innovations[4]

Wilson has participated in the development of techniques used in knee ligament reconstruction. His work has included involvement in a translateral “all-inside” approach for anterior and posterior cruciate ligament procedures, carried out in collaboration with Arthrex.[5] He has also been associated with the introduction of FibreTape augmentation for cruciate ligament repair in 2013.

Professional memberships

Wilson is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (Trauma and Orthopaedics). His professional affiliations include the British Orthopaedic Association and the British Association for Surgery of the Knee. He is also a member of the European Society for Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy, where he has served on the Osteotomy Committee (Vice-Chairman, 2017) and the Arthroscopy Committee (2020–2023).
